Brixton Reuse Centre – Paulet Road

A new community space for repair, reuse and skills
Remade in Brixton is working together with other community groups to develop the Brixton Reuse Centre – a place where reusable waste materials can be collected, repaired or remade into something useful, and sold or distributed to the public. The Reuse Centre will also offer training and workshops on repair and reuse.

For more information about the project download a  Business Plan Summary (draft).

Where?
The proposed location for the Reuse Centre is a disused garage block on Paulet Road Estate at the corner of Paulet and Lilford Road.

Who?
We would like to hear YOUR views – questions and concerns, ideas for materials we should be reusing, sources and outlets for materials, events and training the Reuse Centre should offer, and how you would like to be involved in developing the project.

Organisations currently involved include:
  • Remade in Brixton – managing the project.

  • Nueva Generacion / Cycooldelic Revolution – bike repairs and training, bike trailers, bike sculpture and furniture, pedal-powered energy, recycled art and cultural projects.
  • Treecycle Wood Recycling Project – collecting used and leftover wood for re-finishing and resale, furniture making, wood chipping for fuel and mulch.

  • Transition Town Brixton Food and Growing Group – tool exchange, growing in reused containers, constructing gardens from salvaged materials.

The list is not complete! Other types of reusable materials that could be collected include: furniture and household items; electrical and electronic appliances; building materials; textiles; insulation materials; leftover paints; books; toys and children’s equipment; a general “scrap store” for art and community projects. We are currently seeking additional partner organisations specialising in different types of materials.

Expressions of interest:
If your organisation reuses or recycles waste materials (or you have an idea for a new reuse / recycling project) and you would like to be part of the Reuse Centre or find out more, please download the Expression of Interest Form. Return to Stephen Edwards, Remade in Brixton, The Community Shop, Unit 6 Granville Arcade, Coldharbour Lane, Brixton SW9 8PR, or e-mail to: info@ecointeriors-uk.com.

Your input:
If you would like to discuss the project further, please get in touch with us at remadeinbrixton@googlemail.com or call Hannah on 0791 9038778.
